Games companies hardly ever reveal exactly how much their games have sold, except when it’s so much that they really want to show off about it.
According to Sony God Of War sold more than 3.1 million copies in the first three days of its release, making it the fastest-selling first party title ever on the PlayStation 4 – beating the likes of Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn.
It’s also one of the most critically acclaimed games of the generation and is currently sitting on a 94 Metacritic score.
‘I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to hop on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play’, said Santa Monica Studio head Shannon Studstill.
‘I’d also like to thank our amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable, and I hope it’s clear that we never settle for what’s conventional. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are enjoying the game and creating new memories of their favourite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for decades to come’.

What’s next for God Of War though is not really clear, as nobody has yet mentioned any DLC – just director Cory Barlog’s desire to make five more games after this.
With sales like that he’ll almost certainly get his wish, but the first step is some more modest patch updates, as detailed by a new today.
As well as quality of life changes, like properly fixing the text size and letting you customise the controls for Rage mode, the most interesting addition currently on the menu is photo mode. Although there’s still no specific release date for it.
